The new Danvers Literary Circle includes Eliza Dustin
Sutton, Mary Ann Poor, Martha King, Mrs. Sally Pool, Lydia W. Preston, Maria
King, Fitch Poole, Rufus Choate and others. The group happily explored
topics such as: the first epistle of Pope's Essay on Man; Why the brass ball on
the steeple will not appear as small at the same distance as on the ground?
Is the fear of man an innate principal in brutes? Is the appearance of
twilight longer in summer than in winter, and if so, the cause of it; Is it
correct to call the air heavy when the weather is sultry? (The Wizard,
